Character Descriptions

Becca

Mid thirties/early forties

Self-contained, neat, precise…the picture of Yuppie, suburban success.  There is a determined, but fragile strength about Becca that is driven by carefully contained grief and self-imposed isolation within her grief.  The potential for fury is not buried far underneath her deliberate day to day ‘moving on’….or refusal to do so

Izzy

Late twenties/early thirties

Becca’s sister; A lively, outspoken, irreverent free-spirit who lives for the moment, with little regard for standard mores and expectations.  She is none-the-less intensely loyal to her family, and unexpectently struggling to provide ‘solid ground’ to move beyond grief

Howie

Mid thirties/early forties

Becca’s husband; Good, solid and loving man who is devoted to his family and the dream they’ve pursued.  He understands himself well enough to know that he needs help, support…and the comfort of whatever he can regain of his life before the tragedy.

Nat

Mid sixties

Becca and Izzy’s mother; Gregarious, chatty and persistent, Nat is somewhat interfering but only with good intent.    She has not grown up with the privileges that Becca has achieved in her life with Howie, and had to work hard all her life to give her children the best she could, and has her own legacy of tragedy.

Jason

late teens

Fairly clean-cut, average teenage boy.  Bright, thoughtful, articulate, there is a maturity about the way that he deals with the pain of his part in the tragedy….but he’s still a kid, and somewhat awkward in his attempts to reach out for forgiveness.

This event is made possible in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered in Putnam County by the Putnam Arts Council.

Everyone is always encouraged to audition.

No Experience is necessary!
"I can’t act!", you say. But a theater has many other slots to fill before a production is ready for an audience. Some are: build sets;  write publicity; box office; design programs; ushers; work on the Newsletter; props; costumes;  and on and on and on. So come and find out more about this fun and fulfilling community group!

So what happens when you come?
You'll be asked to read a scene or multiple scenes from the play with several other actors.

Very Important - Bring a list of dates (conflicts) when you will not be available to rehearse.

If you are not cast on your first attempt, don't be discouraged. There are lots of reasons director's cast a show the way they do and you may have an opportunity in another show.
