FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

                                     The Brewster Theater Company Presents

“Family Fare: An Evening of One Acts”

Local authors showcase their original works; teens express their unique views via monologues and five directors bring out the humor and drama of families with the talents of a diverse cast.

BREWSTER, NY –Although not household names, local aspiring playwrights and directors Greg Monacelli, Elizabeth Joyce and MG Wells will become celebrities of sorts when their works are performed in early June as part of Brewster Theater Company’s (BTC) Evening of One-Act Plays.  Featuring 8 short plays and 6 teen monologues written by local or relatively unknown playwrights, each piece explores the complexity of family relationships.

“Family Fare: An Evening of One Acts” will have performances on Friday June 9th at 8 pm and Saturday, June 10th at 3 pm and 8 pm at St Andrew’s Church Hall in Brewster.

Although BTC has a long resume of main stage productions under its belt, the theater group is dedicated to providing opportunities for first-time directors, writers and actors.  Now in its third year, The Evening of One Acts has become BTC's primary forum for promoting new talent and material.   In the past, this show has drawn a mix of new-to-the stage actors as well as veterans looking for a small venue production. This year, a cast of 20+ actors and 5 directors will participate in the show.  In addition to Monacelli, Joyce and Wells, Karen Muendell and Margaret Carey also fill director roles.

“Every year, we look for innovative ways to make this show fresh and exciting both for the participants and the audience.  This year, we’ve expanded our repertoire by giving local authors, like Greg, Elizabeth and MG the chance to bring their plays to the stage and also by allowing people like Karen and Margaret, who have extensive stage experience, to hone their talents as directors” says Carolyn Adams who along with Debbie Levin produces this year’s show.

‘An Evening of One Acts’ originator and its past producer/director, Margaret Carey introduces another new component this year with the inclusion of monologues delivered by teens. “We want to capitalize on the very talented young people in our community who are committed to honing their craft outside the school theater arena. Each teen is performing character analysis. The result is a unique interpretation that is sure to entertain the audience as well as give them tools to create new characters in the future,” says Carey.

This event is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program.  In Putnam County, the Decentralization Program is administered by the Putnam Arts Council.
