The Brewster Theater Company Presents “Aladdin” Sultans, Sorcery and Magical Characters Fill Every Wish
BREWSTER, NY – The Brewster Theater Company (BTC) announces its Fall children’s production, “Aladdin,” adapted by William Glennon. The show will play at the Henry H. Wells Brewster Middle School in Brewster, NY. Show dates are November 3rd, 4th and 5th. Curtain is at 7pm each night, and there will also be a 3pm matinee on Saturday, November 5th. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 2-14.
BTC’s production of “Aladdin” promises to spark the imagination, ignite an interest in far away places and reinforce the value of friendship and fantasy. Aladdin and his friends, including a dancing monkey named Toodles, are all about adventure, and when a mysterious stranger named Zorah tries to steal Aladdin’s old lamp, they get plenty of it. There are spells, potions, and reversals of fortune as Aladdin discovers the magic of the lamp and his love for the Princess — and finally outwits the evil Zorah.
“Since this production started out as a theater workshop for local kids, we decided to tackle a non-musical to teach the children the finer points of comedy, including timing, nuance, and character,” said Vicky Barbalato, director. “As a story it’s appealing because of its theme of making dreams come true, and good triumphing over evil.”
According to BTC president, Debbie Levin, BTC is reaching beyond its traditional scope of productions, which lean mostly towards adult fare -- both comedy and drama. Based on feedback from its audience over the past year, the theater company expanded into the musical arena with its production of 'Nunsense' in October, and has more children's theater workshops and performances, like 'Aladdin', in plan for 2006 and beyond.
